A mother put her toddler’s favorite channel on the TV, left her there, and went to tidy up the kitchen. Once she was done, she returned to the living room to play with her daughter but couldn’t find her.

She called out her name, but there was no response. Growing worried, she quickly checked the rooms and went outside to see if her daughter had snuck out through the front door, as she had recently learned to open locks.

She couldn’t find her outside either. Panic began to set in. She kept calling her name and started searching the rooms again. That was when she saw her lying on the ground, hidden by the bed.

She rushed to her side and discovered the toddler had the end of a phone charger in her mouth, while the other end was still plugged into the socket. Quickly, she unplugged the charger and rushed her unresponsive baby to the hospital.

Tragically, the wire the baby put in her mouth had exposed areas. She was pronounced dead on arrival.

Please, after reading this, unplug any charger or extension cord that is not actively charging a device.

Turning off the switch is not enough (there’s still a risk of electrocution).

Always unplug chargers and use socket covers, as children might still plug in devices you’ve unplugged.

Do not send toddlers to retrieve plugged-in phones or other devices.

Always buy original chargers, and if you notice any exposed or damaged parts, do not cover them with tape. Dispose of them immediately, especially if you have children.

Never sleep with your charging phone on your bed. There have been cases of electrocution in adults who did this.

What happened to that family is every parent’s worst nightmare.

This is important not just for parents, but also for uncles, aunties, grandparents, and anyone who spends time around children.
